The Bible never specifically addresses men going to strip clubs which has led some Christian men to believe it is not a sin for them to do so. Some Christian men reason that “As long as I am not touching the women or engaging in sexual activity then I am not sinning”.
The Bible does not specifically address every specific sinful thing we could ever do – however it gives general principles and commands that can indeed be applied to everything we do.
Is it a sin for a Christian man to go to strip club? The short answer is YES. But then we need to do what the Bible says in 1 Thessalonians 5:21 and “Prove all things…”.
In Romans 7:7, the Apostle Paul wrote “for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet”. So, Paul tells us that lust is covetousness as defined by the 10th commandment.
The 10th commandment in Exodus 20:17 says “Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour’s.”
The 10th commandment teaches us that lust/covetousness is more than finding a man’s wife, his house, his cattle or any of his other property desirable – otherwise all commerce would be sin.
Lust is the desire to UNLAWFULLY use or possess someone or something.
So, when is a man guilty of the sin of looking on a woman “to lust after her” (Matthew 5:28)? The answer is when he desires to entice her or be enticed by her into sexual relations outside of marriage – that is lust.
So the question becomes, If it is not wrong for men to simply enjoy the view of the feminine form, why then is it wrong for men to go to strip clubs as long as they are not engaging in sexual activity with these women?
The answer is two-fold.
The first reason it is wrong for men to go to strip clubs is because the entire point of a strip is for women to entice men sexually; to make them think they might be able to have sexual relations – strip clubs promote the sin of lust which is condemned in Matthew 5:28 and Exodus 20:17.
In Leviticus 18:22 the Bible says “Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination”. Obviously, a man cannot have vaginal sex with a man, therefore a man having sexual relations with a woman is not limited to vaginal intercourse.
The Bible says that the only sexual relations God finds “honorable” and “undefiled” (Hebrews 13:4) are those which occur in the covenant of marriage between a man and woman (Genesis 2:24).
This leads us to the second reason it is wrong for men to go to strip clubs and this is because of the virtual sex that occurs in these clubs. These women may not have actual vaginal intercourse with these men but make no mistake they are engaging in other forms of sexual relations.
